The ingredients needed to make Fried Tofu:
- Make ready 250 g tofu
- Take 1 eggs
- Prepare 1/2 cup flour
- Take 50 g breadcrumbs
It's funny how tofu gets associated only with vegetarian/healthy foods on the mainland. I have had MANY people ask me how I pan fry my tofu and get it so crispy and firm. There are a few reasons why:-). First I either use a non-stick or cast iron pan, I don't overcrowd the surface, I drain my tofu REALLY well, use only extra firm Chinese style and MOST important of all, I leave it undisturbed while cooking and this allows the golden crust we all love on pan-fried tofu to develop!
Instructions to make Fried Tofu:
- Prepare plates with flour first, then egg and the third plate with breadcrumbs.
- Cut your Tofu block into 4 main blocks about 4cm long
- Set a pan and oil for deep frying on high heat
- Follow the plates sequence by dipping the tofu in flour first and coat all sides then egg and coat all sides and lastly breadcrumbs and coat all sides. Then into the hot oil.
- Deep fry until all sides turn brown. Let it cool and serve with Tonkatsu (BBQ) sauce or Ketchup.
Crispy Pan Fried Tofu is a fabulous vegetarian snack or appetizer. The crunchy golden exterior is the perfect complement to the soft texture of the tofu.
